Melting point 408 ℃; Soluble in liquid ammonia, ethanol, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen iodide and potassium iodide solution, insoluble in cold water. It is decomposed into bismuth oxide in hot water. Heat to 439 °c (760mmHg) sublimation, decomposition when raised to 500 °c.

Soluble in alcohol, hydrochloric acid, hydroiodic acid and potassium iodide solution, slightly soluble in liquid ammonia, benzene, toluene, insoluble in cold water. The air is gradually decomposed. It was also decomposed in case of strong acid. The powdered bismuth is mixed with iodine, ground, heated to react, or the iodine is dissolved in a saturated solution of concentrated hydrochloric acid in tin dichloride, and bismuth trioxide is added. |
